Director
Madelyn Lizama, BS/Special Education About Me
My name is Madelyn Lizama, and I am honored to introduce myself as the Director of Learning Paths Academy at Ashland. I am truly thrilled to be joining this wonderful community and look forward to getting to know each of you and your amazing children.
I bring with me over 8 years of experience in the field of education, with a strong foundation in both general elementary education and special education. I earned my Bachelor of Individualized Study in Special Education Studies from George Mason University, which has given me the knowledge and perspective to support a wide range of learning styles and needs. My background also includes time as a special education teaching assistant working with children with severe autism, an experience that shaped my compassionate, inclusive approach to early childhood education.
I’m originally from El Salvador and I love traveling and exploring new places. I’m a first-time mom to a spirited little girl with the goofiest personality, she keeps me on my toes and brings so much joy to my life. Watching her grow has deepened my understanding of how important these early years truly are.
I absolutely love teaching children and watching their growth unfold. One of my favorite parts of the day is greeting families in the morning, those first smiles, set the tone for a great day. What motivates me most is seeing parents feel confident and at ease, knowing their children are in good hands. Your trust means everything to me, and it inspires me to go above and beyond every single day.
I’m looking forward to building strong relationships with all of you, and I’m excited for the wonderful year ahead at Learning Paths Academy at Ashland!

We Couldn't Have Asked for a Better Montessori Experience
Moving from Japan to the United States with a two-year-old came with plenty of unknowns, but finding this Montessori school quickly became one of the easiest parts of our transition. From our very first visit, we knew we had found something special.
Miss Madelyn, as the director, sets the tone for the entire school. She is transparent, approachable, and genuinely invested in building strong relationships with both families and staff. Her leadership creates an environment where everyone feels informed, welcomed, and supported.
Miss Lauren deserves recognition simply for the way she starts each day. Her smile seems to greet you before you even walk through the door, and if you somehow miss that, you'll certainly hear her enthusiastic "hello!" She has a gift for making every morning feel warm and welcoming—for both children and parents.
Miss Dominique made our family feel at home from day one. She helped us recognize that our son was ready for potty training before we fully realized it ourselves and partnered with us to create consistent routines at school and at home. That teamwork gave him confidence and made what can be a stressful milestone feel surprisingly manageable. (Anything that makes potty training easier deserves an award.)
Miss Jossie has an incredible ability to connect with every child. She meets each student where they are and somehow makes every child feel like they're her favorite. As a parent, it's reassuring to know your child is truly known, valued, and cared for.
Miss Natalycontinually amazes us with the Montessori method. Before our son was even two and a half years old, he was recognizing every letter in his name, identifying each letter by its phonetic sound, and spelling both his own name and the names of his classmates. She made learning so engaging that he didn't even realize how much he was accomplishing.
Miss Patricia brings an energy that's impossible to describe until you experience it. She's equal parts encouraging, hilarious, and "big sister" to every child. The children adore her, but parents get an added bonus: she's mastered the Pixar-style art of slipping subtle jokes into everyday conversations that fly right over the kids' heads while leaving the adults laughing. Those little moments make ordinary drop-offs and pickups memorable.
The greatest compliment I can give this school is that our transition from Montessori education in Japan to Montessori education in the United States felt almost effortless. That doesn't happen by chance. It happens because an exceptional group of educators genuinely loves what they do and works together as a team.
Our son is learning far more than academics here. He's growing in confidence, independence, kindness, curiosity, and joy—and that's because of the people who invest in him every single day.
If you're looking for a Montessori school where your child will be challenged, encouraged, genuinely known, and deeply cared for, I cannot recommend this team highly enough.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
(Although if they could somehow teach my son to put his toys away at home as willingly as he does at school, I'd happily give them six stars.)
My daughters have attended several daycares in Manassas and Dumfries, and this school is by far the best in the area. We truly feel the love and passion from the teachers and staff every day. Our daughters come home excited to share what they learned at school, which means so much to us as parents. We are surprised that this daycare doesn’t have the high rating it truly deserves. We highly recommend this daycare to any family looking for a caring and engaging environment.
We love Mr. Bryce — he’s a great teacher! We also really appreciate our previous teacher, Ms. Nataly, who is always welcoming, smiling, and has patience with the kids. And the new director, Ms. Madelyn, is wonderful — everything has improved since she joined!
We’ve had such a wonderful experience with Learning Paths Academy at Ashland, and I can’t recommend it enough! Both of our children have attended, and we’ve been so impressed from the start.
The teachers here are truly amazing – many of them have been with the school for years (our sons’ teachers for 4 and 6 years), and it shows in the way they connect with the kids. They earn the children’s respect, communicate on their level, and guide them gently and effectively. It’s clear they genuinely love what they do and care deeply about the kids.
The daily schedule is consistent and structured, and we love receiving the weekly lesson plans that include fun and creative learning goals. The smaller class sizes mean every child gets personal attention, and the kids never feel lost in the mix.
The school is secure, organized, and very communicative – we get frequent updates through their app, emails, flyers, and postings. The hours of operation are especially helpful for working parents, and they also plan plenty of fun activities and summer field trips.
We appreciate that incident reports are always provided (though thankfully they’ve been very rare), and the kids get tasty, nutritious meals and snacks – even breakfast! The playground is fantastic and safely separated by age group, and the school itself is always clean and well-maintained. Our boys also love the sweet little library up front with rotating books tied to themes and seasons.
The director and assistant director are always present, approachable, and clearly invested in the success of the school. My kids are happy campers at pick-up every day, and it gives us peace of mind knowing they are in such great hands.
We feel lucky to be part of the Learning Paths family and look forward to many more years here. A huge thank you to the amazing teachers, staff, and directors who make this such a special place!
Teachers and Staff are so warm and friendly! Not sure if it's their job or not but one of my daughter's teachers notified me upon picking her up, that her homework had been completed. Love it!
